Sons of Italy Fall Fest and Grape Stomp
Saturday, September 12, 2009
10:00am - 6:00 pm
We were not going to have a grape stomp this year but the Sons of Italy made us an "Offer We Couldn't Refuse"
Along with our usual Lucille Ball type grape stomping contest guests can enjoy a true family, food and music fest inspired by Italian heritage, encouraged by Italian spirit and provided by Italian love of family.
Grape Stomp
Lucille Ball style grape stomping contest. Two-person teams will compete in each “stomp heat,” beginning at 2 p.m. The winning team from each heat will compete in the Grand Stomp Off about 3:30 p.m. Participants must be 16-years or older. Sign up for Grape Stomp at 1:00 pm.
Grape Stomp participants are invited and encouraged, in Olympic Cellars tradition, to create and model their own interpretation of classic harvest couture. If enough people dress-up, we’ll have a Classic Harvest Costume Contest.
Great Italian Food
The air will be filled with the mouth-watering aroma of pasta with meatballs and sausage heros provided by the Cedar Creek Inn, as well as fresh bread, pastries and desserts from the Bell Street Bakery. Fresh clams, oysters and crab provided by Quality Seafoods will be cooked on site and available for take home purchase. Pizza, tacos, salads, hot dogs, smoothies, coffee and Maria’s Italian Ices will also be available. Visitors can sample Olympic Cellars’ new and current releases in the tasting room, which will be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Music All Day
Music All Day
The Happy Gang will perform on the covered outdoor patio. The five- piece band plays popular music of the 40s, 50s and 60s sprinkled with a few “spaghetti-western” tunes. Special guest vocalist Lee Harwell will add an Italian twist to the band’s repertoire, singing songs like Come Back to Sorrento and Arrivederci Roma accompanied by Win Perman on mandolin. Harwell is a member of Olympic Theater Arts, and has performed in a number of musicals throughout the Olympic Peninsula.
Vocalist and entertainer Charlie Ferris will end the festival on a high note, taking visitors on a musical stroll through time with his passionate interpretations of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Elvis Presly and other icons of the 50s, 60s and 70s. The audience may be inspired to dance, sing-along or sit back, reminisce and enjoy!
Local Arts & Crafts
Over 20 Local artists and community booths including pottery, jewelry, and art and glass creations. The festival also coincides with Port Angeles’ Twilight Fest, celebrating Stephenie Meyer’s popular Twilight series of books. New Moon, the second book in the series, takes place largely in the town of Volterra, Italy. Fans are invited to stop at Fall Fest, browse the Dazzled by Twilight booth and make the Italian connection before heading to “Bella’s Ball” at the Port Angeles Elks Club on Saturday night.
Bocce Ball
Experienced players will provide instruction in the traditional Italian game of Bocce at an on-site court.
Puppet Show
At 11:00, Terri Church of Wishing Star Puppetry will perform an original puppet show titled, “The Treasure of Pirate’s Cove,” starring Guiseppe, the opera-singing pirate. The show will last for approximately 40 minutes, after which visitors can have their photo taken with the puppets. The show will be repeated at 1 p.m.
