Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival
Tour of North Olympic Wine Country
Saturday - Sunday, October 11 & 12, 2008
11 am-5 pm
The North Olympic Peninsula Wine Country is in the midst of harvest, and it is an exciting time, with grapes arriving daily from vineyards across Washington. Each winemaker is eagerly awaiting their chance to create the magic of winemaking with this year’s vintage. The first grapes arrived about mid-September and the “crush” began with grapes arriving periodically as each vineyard and variety reaches perfection during this harvest season. All the wineries are “a buzz” with activity… yes there is even a few bees that join in to create this music of the harvest!
Before, during or after you feast on the bounties of our Olympic Coast Cuisine of local seafood, freshly grown produce, and delicious hand crafted wines at the Crab and Seafood Festival… we invite you to continue your exploration of the special flavors of our unique and superb local wines on-site at our wineries. Grape harvesting and wine making does not “take a break” for the weekend making this is a unique opportunity to visit a small winery at the height of action. It is a busy time with many of the different stages of crushing, fermentation, punching down and pressing off the juice usually in process.
Consider this our personal invitation. Each of our wineries are unique in style and personality… from Chardonnay to Cabernet Sauvignon, and from Viognier to Zinfandel… we are making wines from some of Washington’s most coveted vineyards amidst some of the Northwest’s most spectacular scenery.
Come join us and explore the Peninsula’s hidden back roads and lush valleys as you discover some of the most distinctive small family wineries in Washington State. Since most of us produce less than 2,000 cases of wine a year, many of the wines are in very limited production and can be challenging to find outside of our local area. Meet the winemakers, learn about the winemaking process, and indulge in the pleasure of sharing these rare and distinctive wines at home with your friends and family.
It is easy to add this self guided wine tour to your Festival visit. Each of us will be open from 11 am - 5 pm on Saturday, October 11th and Sunday, October 12th.
We all look forward to seeing you.
Salute!
